Study Abroad After 12th: Courses, Countries, Costs and a Timeline for Indian Students

Indian students can go abroad for a bachelor's degree straight after 12th. Most universities ask for your Class 10 and 12 marks, proof of English proficiency, a statement of purpose and proof that you can fund your studies, and some countries or courses add an entrance test or a foundation year. Start around twelve months before your intended intake.

Which Courses Can I Study Abroad After 12th?

Almost anything offered in India and more: engineering, computer science, business, nursing and healthcare, design, hospitality, psychology, law and medicine. Science students who have qualified NEET can also consider MBBS abroad, which starts from ₹31 lakhs in Vietnam.

What Are the Entry Requirements?

Universities look at your Class 12 percentage and subjects first, then your English test score. Requirements differ by country and course — competitive programs ask for higher marks and specific subjects such as Mathematics for engineering. Some countries have particular rules: the United States may ask for the SAT or ACT at selective universities, and Germany generally requires a foundation year (Studienkolleg) or a year of university study in India before a bachelor's at a public university.

Which English Test Do I Need?

IELTS, PTE Academic, TOEFL and, at many universities, the Duolingo English Test are accepted. Some universities waive the requirement for students from English-medium schools with strong English marks. Check what both the university and the visa authority accept before booking a test.

How Much Does a Bachelor's Abroad Cost?

It varies enormously. Public universities in Germany charge little or no tuition, while the UK, USA, Australia and Canada charge substantial international fees, with living costs on top. Scholarships and education loans — secured or unsecured — cover much of the gap for many families. We build a destination-wise budget in your first counselling session.

Can I Work Part-Time as an Undergraduate?

Most major destinations allow international students to work part-time during term and more during holidays, within limits set by each country. Treat this income as support for living costs, not as a way to pay tuition.

When Should I Start?

  • Class 11 to early Class 12: research countries and courses, plan your budget
  • Mid Class 12: take your English test, shortlist universities
  • After your pre-board or predicted results: submit applications for the September intake
  • After board results: accept an offer, arrange funds or a loan, apply for the visa
  • Two to three months before departure: accommodation, forex and pre-departure briefing
