Why Indian Students Choose MBBS Abroad

A fraction of private-college cost

Private MBBS seats in India routinely run ₹60 lakhs to over ₹1 crore. Vietnam starts from ₹31 lakhs and Georgia from roughly ₹33–42 lakhs for the complete course.

No capitation or donation

Fees are published by the university and paid to the university. There is no capitation fee and no management-quota negotiation.

A seat that depends on qualifying NEET

Admission abroad needs a qualifying NEET result, not a top rank — so students who qualified but missed an affordable Indian seat still have a route into medicine.

Same licensing pathway home

Every foreign medical graduate follows the same route to practise in India: complete the degree and internship, then clear the national licensing exam (FMGE today).

Who Is Eligible?

  • A qualifying NEET result — mandatory for every Indian student who wants to practise in India after an MBBS abroad
  • 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English
  • At least 50% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (relaxed for reserved categories as per NEET norms)
  • At least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year
  • A valid passport — apply early if you do not have one, since it is needed for the offer letter and visa

The Route Back to India

From Foreign Graduate to Practising Doctor

  1. 01

Complete the full course and internship abroad

NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 require a course of at least 54 months plus a 12-month internship at the same foreign institution, taught in English.

  2. 02

Clear the licensing exam in India

Today this is the FMGE, conducted by NBEMS twice a year. The National Exit Test (NExT) is planned to replace it — check current NMC notices when you graduate.

  3. 03

Complete a supervised internship in India

After clearing the exam, foreign graduates complete a 12-month Compulsory Rotating Medical Internship in India.

  4. 04

    Register and practise

With the internship complete you can obtain permanent registration and practise, or sit postgraduate entrance exams like any other doctor in India.

What We Tell Every Family Before They Pay Anything

MBBS abroad is a six-year commitment. These are the points worth knowing at the start.

NEET is not optional. Any consultancy telling you that a particular country lets you skip NEET is putting your right to practise in India at risk.

FMGE is a real hurdle. Pass rates have historically been low, so the university's clinical teaching and your own preparation matter more than the brochure.

Fees quoted here cover the university program. Budget separately for food, local travel, flights, visa renewals and personal expenses.

Rules change. NMC regulations, exam formats and visa requirements are revised from time to time — we confirm the current position before you pay any fee.

MBBS Abroad — Frequently Asked Questions

Which is the cheapest country for MBBS abroad through Versa Global?

Vietnam is currently our most affordable MBBS destination, starting from ₹31 lakhs for the complete 6-year program including tuition, hostel and administration fees. Georgia typically costs $40,000–50,000 (roughly ₹33–42 lakhs) for the full program.

Is NEET compulsory for MBBS abroad?

Yes. A qualifying NEET result is mandatory for every Indian student who wants to practise medicine in India after studying MBBS in any foreign country. You need to qualify NEET — you do not need a top rank.

Is an MBBS degree from Vietnam or Georgia valid in India?

A foreign medical degree is accepted in India when the course meets NMC's Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulations, 2021 — at least 54 months of study, a 12-month internship at the same institution, English-medium teaching — and the graduate then clears the Indian licensing exam (FMGE today). Versa Global only places students in programs that meet these rules.

What is the eligibility for MBBS abroad?

You need a qualifying NEET result, 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English, at least 50% aggregate in PCB (relaxed for reserved categories as per NEET norms), and you must be at least 17 years old by 31 December of the admission year.

How long is an MBBS abroad?

Both Vietnam and Georgia run 6-year programs that include clinical training. After returning to India, foreign graduates clear the licensing exam and complete a 12-month supervised internship before permanent registration.

What is FMGE and when do I take it?

The Foreign Medical Graduate Examination is the screening test conducted by NBEMS, usually twice a year, that foreign medical graduates must pass to register as doctors in India. It has 300 multiple-choice questions and the pass mark is 150. You take it after completing your degree abroad.

Will NExT replace FMGE?

The National Exit Test is planned under the National Medical Commission Act as a common exam for licensing and postgraduate entry, and it is intended to replace FMGE for foreign graduates. Its rollout has been deferred more than once, so check current NMC notices as you approach graduation.

Can I get an education loan for MBBS abroad?

Yes. Versa Global works with 20+ banks and NBFCs and prepares the loan file end-to-end. Secured loans backed by property or deposits usually carry lower interest rates; unsecured loans depend on the university, course and your co-applicant's income and credit score.

When are the MBBS intakes in Vietnam and Georgia?

Vietnam's medical programs typically run September and January intakes. Georgia typically runs September and February intakes. Starting your application three to four months before the intake keeps the visa timeline comfortable.

Is there an entrance exam for MBBS in Vietnam or Georgia?

Beyond NEET qualification and your 10+2 marks, Vietnamese medical universities generally do not require a separate entrance exam, and Georgian universities do not require entrance exams beyond NEET eligibility for Indian students. Some universities hold a short interview.

Should I choose Vietnam or Georgia for MBBS?

The total cost is close, so it usually comes down to intake timing, climate and lifestyle preference, and how established the Indian student community is at your shortlisted university. Vietnam suits students who put the lowest cost and a January start first; Georgia has a longer track record of Indian students.

Does Versa Global help MBBS students from outside Kerala?

Yes. Our office is in Kakkanad, Kochi, but counselling, documentation and visa support are handled online and by phone for students anywhere in India.
