Study in France 2026: Fees, Campus France, Scholarships & Jobs for Indian Students

France is one of the best-value destinations in Europe for Indian students. Public universities charge nationally set fees that are a fraction of UK or US tuition, business and engineering schools teach many programs in English, and Indian students with a master's from France can get a five-year short-stay Schengen visa. Every application goes through Campus France.

How Much Does It Cost to Study in France?

Public universities charge nationally set annual fees for international students — a few thousand euros a year — and some institutions offer exemptions. Business schools and private engineering schools (grandes écoles) charge considerably more, often comparable to UK master's fees. Living costs are highest in Paris; Lyon, Toulouse, Lille and Grenoble are cheaper.

Do I Need to Speak French?

Not for many master's, MSc and MBA programs, which are taught entirely in English, particularly in business, engineering, data and hospitality. Most bachelor's programs at public universities are taught in French. Even on an English-taught course, learning basic French makes part-time work, internships and daily life much easier.

What Is Campus France and How Does It Work?

Campus France India runs the mandatory "Études en France" process for Indian students. You create an account, upload your academic documents and statement of purpose, apply to programs through the platform where applicable, and attend a Campus France interview before applying for your long-stay student visa (VLS-TS). Start early — the process adds several weeks before the visa appointment.

Which Scholarships Can Indian Students Get?

  • Charpak Scholarship: offered by the French Embassy in India specifically for Indian students, at bachelor's, master's and exchange level
  • Eiffel Excellence Scholarship: the French government's scholarship for master's and PhD students, nominated by the institution
  • Institutional scholarships: many business and engineering schools offer merit-based fee reductions

Can I Work While Studying in France?

Yes. International students can work up to 964 hours a year — roughly 60% of full-time hours — which in practice allows about 20 hours a week during term. Internships (stages) are a built-in part of many French programs and are often paid.

Can I Stay in France After My Degree?

Master's graduates can apply for a temporary residence permit (APS) to look for work or start a business in France. Indian students who complete a master's at a French institution are also eligible for a five-year short-stay Schengen visa, which makes returning to Europe for business or interviews much simpler.

When Are the Intakes?

September is the main intake, with a smaller January intake at some business and engineering schools. For September, start the Campus France process between November and March.
