Malaysia lets Indian students earn degrees from Monash, the University of Nottingham, Heriot-Watt and Curtin at their Malaysian campuses for much less than the home-campus fee. English is widely spoken, living costs are low, and Student Passes are processed through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS).
Are Malaysian Branch-Campus Degrees the Same as the Home Campus?
International branch campuses award the parent university's degree. Some universities also allow you to transfer to the home campus in the UK or Australia partway through, combining the lower Malaysian cost with time abroad. Always check accreditation for your specific program and career plans.
How Much Does It Cost?
Tuition at branch campuses and private universities is far lower than for the same degree in the UK or Australia, and living costs in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor Bahru are modest. Public universities such as Universiti Malaya are another option.
How Does the Student Pass Work?
After you accept an offer, your university applies to EMGS on your behalf. You receive a visa approval letter, travel to Malaysia, complete a medical screening and receive your Student Pass.
Can I Work While Studying?
International students can work part-time — up to 20 hours a week — during semester breaks and holidays of more than seven days, in permitted sectors.
Can I Work in Malaysia After Graduating?
There is no dedicated post-study work visa. Graduates who find a job need an employment pass sponsored by the employer. Many students use a Malaysian degree as a stepping stone to work or further study elsewhere.
Which Courses Are Popular?
Business, engineering, computer science, hospitality and pharmacy are common choices, with many programs offering the same curriculum as the home campus.
When Are the Intakes?
Most universities run several intakes — commonly February, July and September — so you rarely have to wait a full year.
