Sweden is known for research, innovation and sustainability, with English-taught master's programs at universities such as KTH, Lund, Uppsala and Chalmers. Applications go through University Admissions in Sweden, the autumn deadline usually falls in mid-January, students have no fixed cap on working hours, and graduates can stay up to 12 months to look for work.
How Do I Apply to Swedish Universities?
Almost all applications go through the national portal, universityadmissions.se, where you can apply to several programs in one round and pay a single application fee. Upload your transcripts, degree certificate, passport and English test score, plus any program-specific documents such as a motivation letter or portfolio.
When Is the Deadline?
For the autumn intake (late August), the application round usually closes in mid-January, with results in early April. A smaller spring intake (January) has an earlier deadline in the previous year. Start shortlisting in October.
How Much Does It Cost?
Tuition for non-EU students varies widely by university and program. Living costs are moderate by Western European standards, with Stockholm the most expensive city. You will need to show proof of funds for your residence permit and pay the first semester's tuition before it is issued.
Are There Scholarships?
The Swedish Institute offers scholarships for global professionals from eligible countries, and most universities offer their own tuition-fee waivers and scholarships for strong applicants. University scholarship deadlines often coincide with the January application round.
Can I Work While Studying?
Yes. There is no fixed cap on student working hours in Sweden, as long as your studies come first. Part-time jobs are easier to find if you learn some Swedish.
Can I Stay After Graduating?
Graduates can apply for a residence permit of up to 12 months to look for work or explore starting a business.
Which Courses Is Sweden Best For?
Engineering, computer science, sustainability and environmental studies, life sciences and design are particular strengths, reflecting Sweden's innovation-led economy.
